Participants of the new Next Wave Maritime Leadership Program have successfully completed the first of six modules in the 2022-2023 program!

Bergen Shipowners Association is proud sponsor of The Next Wave Maritime Leadership Program. This is a new one of a kind leadership development and mentor program that will shape the next generation leaders for the maritime industry. This program marks the first time that Norwegian Business School BI and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences HVL cooperate and is one of the only executive educational programs geared towards maritime professionals. The 2022-2023 cohort consists of 24 high level maritime professionals with an average of 16 years of experience.
A Changing Maritime Industry
Module one is the first of six modules throughout the 2022-2023 program. Entitled “A Changing Maritime Industry,” this first module focuses on the big picture and takes a step back to look at the industry as a whole. Lecturers included Randi Lunnan, Professor Chair, Insitute for strategy & entrepreneurship at BI Oslo, Liv Reidun Grimstvedt, Center Manager, Faculty for Busiess Adm. & Social Sciences at HVL and Hans Martin Straume, Associate Professor, Departement of Economics at BI Bergen.
The module also involved industry application where the participants were presented a confidential case from Grieg Maritime Group / Grieg Edge on day one to work on in break out groups. On day two, the participants had the opportunity to discuss and present the case to Matt Duke, CEO of Grieg Maritime Group and Ragnhild Farstad Høvik, Project Developer at Grieg Edge, Green Amonia leading to very lively and engaging discussions.

The program presents many opportunities for participants to get to know each other and expand their network. The first day of module one ended with a social activity, city wandering with a guide from Bergen Maritime Museum sharing stories of the maritime history of Bergen. Afterwards, Bergen Shipowners´ Association hosted a dinner with burgers and beer where Marianne Møgster, Chairman of the Board gave a warm welcome.
WISTAS’ Maritime Meet-Up
To further strengthen the program, participants are matched with a relevant mentor to meet with thought out the year. Next Wave has entered into a cooperation with WISTA Norway where all the participants get matched through their successful Maritime Meet-up Program which started in 2012. The kick off took part on day two of the program, hosted by Karsten Gerhard Jebsen Skipsrederi and included a lecture on mentoring by Olav Kjellevold Olsen, professor at UiB and BI.
Module 2
The next module will take place at BI Oslo campus November 9-10 and focus on on the business models, resources and activities a firm can use when making strategy and welcome guest speaker Thomas Wihelmsen, Group CEO, Wihelmsen.
